Abstract. This article is related to the consideration of the specifics of views on the rule of law in the French jurisprudence through the prism of a number of modern concepts. The author noted the preconditions of these ideas that have arisen within the material model of the rule of law, investigated the essence and causes of their transformation in recent decades, analyzed the prospects of its possible development.

Key words: rule of law, social rule of law, international rule of law, postmodern state, human rights, power, legality, hierarchy of norms.
