Introduction: the urgency of the research is due to the reform of the judicial system, involving the solution of some problems of a legal, organizational and ethical nature. The purpose of this study is to establish the correlation of the professionalism of a judge and his (her) moral and ethic qualities. Methods: the methodological framework for this research is the methods of scientific knowledge, system analysis, synthesis, and the comparative law method. Results: the basis of the content of educational values should be based on the idea emanating from the very nature of human existence in a civilized society. This idea can be concentrated in two concepts - professionalism and morality. An immoral professional is more dangerous than just a layman. It is hardly possible to build a legal society, if its legal professionals will not have the moral principle of citizenship and social feeling, will not overcome legal nihilism, and will not form the specific qualities of an individual. Conclusions: Professionalism in the structure of personality of a lawyer must always be “fixed” by morality as a socially important characteristic of the personality of a lawyer. This seems to be the correlation of the considered qualities.

Key words: competence, professionalism, ethics, judicial ethics, morality, personality traits, moral values, moral principles.
