Introduction: enshrined in the legislation the conceptual and categorical framework in the legal regulation of the foreign trade turnover of energy resources will serve to improve the legal regulation of social relations in this area and to ensure the uniformity of the law enforcement practice and judicial practice in solving disputes between the subjects in this sphere of legal relations. Taking into account this thesis and substantiating it, the author of the work sets the goal: to determine the concepts which are general for the foreign trade turnover in the energy area and relevant to the development of civil law as a branch of science and law. Methods: the methodological framework for this study is a set of scientific methods, among which the methods of systematicity, analysis and the comparative law method are of particular importance. Results: the article identifies the concepts which are significant for the legal regulation of the foreign trade turnover in the energy area and important for the development of civil law as a branch of science and law: “foreign trade activity in the energy area” and “foreign trade turnover of energy resources”. Conclusions: the formed definitions will promote the developing of civil theoretical knowledge, the eliminating of possible difficulties in forming the uniform law enforcement practice which are related to the lack of the legislative consolidation of these concepts which are key for the legal regulation of the area of economic management under study and facilitate resolving the uncertainty of the doctrinal approaches to this issue.
