Abstract. The article discusses the concepts of “business”, “income-generating activity” proposed by the Russian legislator by means of identifying their characteristic features. The author compares such legal concepts as “profit generation” and “profit-generating activity”. The author analyzes the legal status of the financial institutions set forth in the anti-monopoly legislation, carries out a study of such financial institutions as banks, non-bank credit organizations, professional participants of securities markets, clearing organizations, microfinance institution, credit consumer cooperatives and many others. The main features of entrepreneurial activity are also identified.
