Abstract. The article reviews the activities of the NAFTA Commission for Environmental Cooperation in resolution of environmental disputes. The analysis of the Commission's jurisdiction indicates its pros and cons. The author provides recommendations for improving its operations, which would make a significant contribution to the governance of the North American environment. It also explains how the lessons learned from the analysis of the North American procedures, can contribute to the creation and use of its analogs in other international law and national regimes.
