Introduction: France, being the leading country among the EU member states in the field of nuclear industry and technology, has detailed public legislation in the nuclear field. The purpose of the study is to adopt and develop the basic definition of “nuclear installation” in France and EU nuclear law. The research uses the methods of scientific cognition based on dialectical and historical materialism, logical, system-structural and comparative law analysis. Results: the author’s position, justified in the work, is based on the analysis of French legislation, EU law and the opinions of the competent scientific community abroad on the role of French legislation on EU law in the nuclear field. Conclusion: as a result of the study, the influence of French legislation on the adoption of a particularly important definition of a “nuclear installation” in EU law in the field of regulation of the nuclear industry is revealed, which accordingly affects the legislation of all EU member states through EU directives.
