Abstract. The article deals with the definition of the state’s role in the regulation of issues in the energy sector of Russia’s economy, particularly oil and gas industry. The author analyzes various mechanisms of state regulation in this area, assesses their positive and negative sides. The author analyses the law in post-Soviet states and in Western countries to identify the legal state mechanisms to influence the energy sector of the economy which are the most suitable for Russia.
