Introduction. This article is a continuation of the publication of the same name in the previous issue of this journal. Methods. The methodological framework of this research is a set of methods of scientific knowledge, among which the main place is occupied by historicist methods of systematic analysis and comparative law. Results. The author distinguishes stages of formation of the concepts of “national security” taking into account the historical experience of Russia and other countries. We present the author’s approach to the identification of the factors causing the current maintenance of national security. Conclusions. National security is a multidimensional phenomenon that needs to be considered as a part of the international security with regard to security within the borders of a particular state, including military threats, as well as in relation to the national interests of the certain state’s population.
