Abstract. The article is related to the consideration of the specifics of views on the
rule of law in the French jurisprudence in the 20th century through the prism of axiological
concepts. The author analyzes the preconditions of these ideas, reveals its content, notes
the debatable aspects of its essence, and shows the theoretical and practical significance of
investigated views.

Key words: rule of law, human rights, legal values, power, hierarchy of norms.
