Abstract. The article deals with the relation of civil law and family law. Based on the analysis of the academic literature the author proves the independence of family law as a branch. It is concluded that the civil law and family law are not only different from one another, but also have a broad framework for cooperation as family law historically separated out of civil law. It is argued that the solutions on adjoined issues lie with the coordinated ways to improve both the civil and family law, in particular in the regulation of relations with minors.

Key words: civil law, family law, subject of a branch of law, method of legal regulation, civil legislation, family legislation, rights of minors.
