Abstract. The article deals with the conceptual and legal basics of ensuring environmental security in Southeast Asian nations. Environmental degradation is caused by industrialization process and population growth in the region. On the basis of review of national development plans and of legislative acts of countries of Southeast Asia, it is concluded that environmental security imperative is an important part of new social and economic development paradigm.
